is Taiwan a country?? (Here we go again)
Okay, sebenarnya motivasiku buat nulis ini agak childish sih,, kenapa? karna ini semua berawal dari sebuah komen di instagram. ini sudah ke sekian kalinya mungkin aku komen debating on the topic "Is Taiwan a Country?" which I firmly believe, yes! Taiwan is a country!
Why do we need to debate on this?? Kenapa ada orang yg masih denial bahwa Taiwan itu sebuah negara. memang sih, posisi Taiwan sebagai negara itu agak awkward, tp bukan berarti dia itu bukan sebuah negara.
waktu SD kita pernah diajari bahwa, bahwa status sebuah negara dapat dilihat dari dua perspective, yaitu: dejure and defacto. secara dejure atau berdasarkan pengakuan komunitas internasional, posisi Taiwan memang rada awkward, karna Taiwan tidak masuk UN dan hanya segelintir negara yg mengakui bahwa Taiwan adalah sebuah negara. Namun secara defacto.. it is undeniable that Taiwan is an independent country.
we have land, people, and our very own highest government, the president. China has zero authority over Taiwan. to make it clear, China has zero power and authority over our land, people, and governance. How the heck are people still denying our authority over our own country??

I hope these people understand that being a "Special Administrative Region" means they adopt the "one country, two system policy," and Taiwan is never considered a special administrative region. China might say otherwise, but if you google it now (January 2024), only two regions are admitted as China's special administrative regions internationally, which are Hong Kong and Macau. Being China's special administrative region, means they do not have a president, military, and exclusive diplomatic activities.. which is absolutely not the case for Taiwan.
remember the time when Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan despite China's warning? Yes, it angers China, but what can China do? Nothing :0
plus we just elected our new president! and what did China say in response?
okay, where is the punishment?? Taiwanese people have been electing their own president since 1996. despite the threats and warns, China has zero ability and authority to stop Pelosi from visiting Taiwan or to stop Taiwanese people from holding their election. I think that alone proves that Taiwan is an independent country :)

Do you guys see how wrong this statement is???? and this is the very first comment that triggered me to write this page.
I hate how it is always someone who does not know the history trying to educate people on the internet. if you don't have sufficient knowledge of a topic, I beg you to keep silent. Don't spread false information okayyy, and my response to that specific comment was :

The Taiwan island was given to Japan by the emperor as a result of the Sino War. After Japan lost WWII in 1945, Taiwan island was supposed to be given back to its current government – guess who it is. It is ROC (colloquially, people call it Taiwan now), not PRC (China). The government of ROC (Taiwan) was formed in 1912 after succeeding in taking down the Qing dynasty. Then, we had that civil war in 1947 between ROC and the communist party, aka CCP. In 1949, CCP won the war and formed the PRC government. ROC, on the other hand, retreated to Taiwan island... (so, whose island is it, you say??) In my opinion, Taiwan island still belongs to ROC because even though they lost the war on the mainland, doesn't mean they automatically lost their right of that island too. But from the PRC's perspective, ROC has no right to do so, which is ridiculous. If you want that island, to be fair, you should take it down yourself, which means another war... yet China never ever came to take that island down but kept yapping that Taiwan belongs to them 😕
And btw, in its early years in Taiwan, the ROC government even made plans to win back mainland China. But over time, the government chose to focus on improving the lives of its citizens in Taiwan. So don't you dare look down on them and say, 'a bunch of people who lost the war'... ROC is just being rational. People nowadays don't want war; we just want to live a peaceful life. You should criticize China for being ridiculous, though. If they wanted Taiwan, they should have come and taken it in the 1950s. It is all too late now. Citizens and the government in Taiwan want nothing from China. We just hope that we can govern our land peacefully and have opportunities to work with the international community. Who wants war nowadays, for real?

I know it's so long.. but after my comments, that person chose to skip them and reply to the comment below mine, saying that: there is no such a thing called "Taiwanese" ; HOW DARE YOU???? that person must be the ugliest coward ever exists in this world. bye., I am done.
